About the blog

It's a simple math problem. The average age of a credit union member is 10 years older than the average age of a North American. If credit unions do not reverse the trend and attract the next generation of credit union members, the future doesn't look so bright.

The Why Gen Y Blog has a simple mission: to equip credit union executives and marketers with relevant information that will help them succeed in attracting and retaining new Generation Y members.

Another white paper worth reading from CUNA

The CUNA HR/TD and Marketing & Business Development Councils has just published another useful white paper that I would recommend getting your hands on. It's titled "Social Media Guidelines & Policies."

Jim Jerving put it together, so I know it'll be good. Jim is a solid researcher and writer.

"A lot of credit unions used to think that having a social media policy meant having something in place that says whether employees could access social media websites on company time," said Christopher Morris, CUNA Councils web manager. "That’s not enough anymore – credit unions need to have guidelines in place to ensure that employees don't inadvertently harm their brand online. For example, what do you do if a staff member posts negative comments about work on their personal twitter account or blog?"

CUNA Council members are entitled to complimentary copies and non-members may purchase the white papers $50 per copy. The paper is available online in the white paper section of www.cunacouncils.org – select the “Marketing & BizDev” or “HR/TD” tab.
